Research in education plays a crucial role in improving the learning process as well as in solving some problems that may hinder either the process of learning or that of teaching. Consequently, a set of methodologies emerge to find answers to research questions and highlight important areas of studies.The nature of various research questions in education entails the use of different research methods and approaches.

-3- OBJECTIVES:After studying this lesson, learners will be able to:

• Understand the main characteristics of scientific inquiry.
• Understand the main features of quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
• List the various types of research approaches.
• Analyze different research questions.
• Understand the main differences between experimental and non experimental approaches.
• Distinguish between relationship-based studies and descriptive studies.
